Give Me Liberty

I do very little shopping outside of POP. Pretty much everything I like, I find a way to incorporate into the shop. But my weakness is home goods, and my selection at the shop is a bit paltry, so I still have needs, you know? But I am a bit thrifty, love antiquing and nothing better than getting a super deal.  So I was swooning I tell you when I saw this new collection, a collaboration between Liberty of London and Target which will be in stores on March 14th. The collection includes fashion for the whole family along with home accessories, storage and organization items and things for the garden. They will even have a bicycle or two in the collection. No doubt it will go fast! Jean Paul Gaultier For Target

Not that I would like to encourage you my dear sweet reader (and shopper) to shop elsewhere, but I understand, variety is the spice of life. Especially if that spice is couture at bargain prices!! I've  long been a big fans of the designer lines at Target; if the whole line is not completely appealing I've been able to find at least one piece that I want. Next designer up? None other than the 80s style icon Jean Paul Gaultier, known as the "bad boy" of fashion, Gaultier who currently designs for Hermes, used the American Woman as his muse and inspiration for this collection. Though I remember him most fondly for dressing Madonna during her Express Yourself years.   This collection definitely looks like Southern Bell meet Rock N' Roll. But it  looks like I don't need to figure out where to wear my pointy bra just yet... The collection will be available in select stores and online March 7 - April 11, 2010.

Hold the Marshmallows

In the winter, I have chronically cold hands and feet. Read into that what you will. Partially for this reason, I have always loved a good roaring fire. In theory. I had a apartment in D.C. that had  a fireplace, but in 4 years I think I used it twice.  It's a serious time commitment for one, the firewood, storing it, starting it, keeping it going, cleaning. Not so with my electric fireplace. Friends laughed when I said I was in the market. Cheesy, silly, fake, I heard.  Still, I would not be dissuaded.  I found mine at Target for less than $350. Four years later, it is truly one of my best investments. Not to mention, it's non-polluting and eco friendly! After turning on the lights, it's the first thing I turn on when I get home in the winter months. It gives off warmth like an electric heater and a faux fire glow that makes my home feel "homey."  Maybe this classic look isn't for you (though I've made it blend with my other wise modern furnishings).  Here are few other options.

Lara's Theme

I watched Dr. Zhivago the other night, again. I love that this epic film, while far from perfect, is transporting and cinematographically beautiful from sweeping scenic images of frozen tundra to the ballroom scene where Lara shoots Komarovsky. As alluring as Omar Sharif's sad brown eyes are, it is truly Julie Christie's beauty and carriage as Lara that draws me in.  She's striking even in the midst of war. And her wardrobe, her hat! I bought a white rabbit fur hat in Shimla, India years ago that I wasn't brave enough until now to wear...and of course, I can no longer find it. So admittedly riding the trend, I bought this hat online at Target.
